“Made in America” may be trending on shopping sites and search engines today, but at Libbey, American-made products have been on-trend for over 200 years. 

That’s because since 1818, Libbey has been proud to manufacture much of our durable, beautiful glassware right here in the USA.  

Libbey’s story began in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of the New England Glass Company, founded in 1818. In 1888, Edward Drummond Libbey, son of the first corporate owner, moved the company to Toledo, Ohio. 

With abundant natural resources and a thriving network of railroad and steamship lines, Northwest Ohio was an ideal location, and in 1892, the company’s name was changed to The Libbey Glass Company. 

Since then, we’ve marked many glassware “firsts”: first to automatically produce lightbulbs, first to develop machine blown glass and first one-piece press and blow stemware. In 2015, we became the first maker of luxury glassware in the U.S. with our Libbey Signature collection.  

Our efforts helped put Toledo on the map and contributed to its title as “The Glass City.” Today, Libbey continues to lead the industry from our corporate headquarters and glassmaking plant in Toledo, which employs hundreds of craftspeople, engineers and designers – all Libbey “Makers.”
